How often should I go to the dentist?

At least twice a year. 6 monthly check ups are our standard recommendation, although this may differ according to each person’s oral hygiene, habits and medical conditions. Your dentist will advise you of the best schedule for your routine visits to us.

Can I claim my health fund rebate?

Yes! We accept all funds connected with HICAPS, and can claim for you on the day as long as you bring your card.

What happens if I forget my health fund card?

We need the physical card to swipe through our HICAPS terminal, not just the card number - so if you forget your card on the day, we will need to settle the account in full and you can take the receipt to your health fund and claim back from them directly.

What age should my child first visit the dentist?

The Australian Dental Association recommends 1 year of age for the a child’s first dental check up. We try to make every appointment as comfortable and fun as possible, but the first visit can still be a bit intimidating for little ones.

You’re more than welcome to bring your child to your own appointments from an early age so they can get used to the environment, and get to know us too!

What should I expect for my first visit?
  • The first time you see us, you will be welcomed warmly and asked to fill out our new patient questionnaire. You can download this form from our website and fill it out in advance if you like.
  • Once you have met your dental team and you’re comfortably seated, the dentist will give you a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, and check any existing fillings are still in tip top shape.
  • Sometimes, your dentist will recommend we take a quick set of small x-rays so we can see in between the teeth. We usually only take these every two years.
  • We’ll finish with a thorough clean and polish, and then you’re on your way!
What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
  • The Child Dental Benefits Schedule was a program introduced to replace the Teen Dental Plan in January 2014. The program provides up to $1,000 in benefits for basic dental services to eligible 2-17 year olds.
  • The Department of Health has advised us of the program’s possible closure to make way for the Child and Adult Public Health Scheme. Until legislation to close the program has been passed, it will operate as normal.
  • More information can be found here: http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/childdental
How do I know if my child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
  • The CDBS has a means test. Families can check eligibility by contacting the Department of Human Services.
  • We are required to check the patient’s eligibility and balance remaining on the day of treatment before providing any services - so if you are unsure, you leave it to us!
Do I need to bring documentation for a CDBS claim?
  • No - just your Medicare card - if the child is on a separate card, please bring both.
  • We are legally required to obtain Informed Financial Consent from a parent or guardian. This means we will ask you to fill out the consent form provided by the Department of Health.
  • We will explain the process to you, advise you of any associated costs and make you aware of any item numbers that may not be covered.
  • The full amount for treatment must be paid to us on the day. You can then take the receipt to Medicare or log in online and claim the rebate.
Are dental x-rays safe?

Absolutely, for adults and for children. The radiation is extremely low, and according to the Australian Dental Association, it’s equivalent to the levels you would be exposed to on a 1-2 hour plane flight. They are safe during pregnancy too, but are usually kept to a minimum.

Your dentist and the assistant will step out of the room when your x-rays are taken - nothing to worry about. We are taking them all day long, so we just try to limit our ongoing exposure over time.
